What is the PLAN?

PL4N on the giant Plasma Screens

Grab your computer and get ready for some gaming! The 'PLAN' (aka The Parkview LAN Party) is a LAN party hosted three times a year by the Computer Club of Western Michigan University. PLAN 10 will technically be our 12th LAN party since we have occasional summer LAN parties and call them "PLAN A", "PLAN B" etc.. (just to be confusing). We play all kinds of games from recent hits like Warsow, Quake 4, and Counter-Strike:Source to old-time favorites like Warcraft 2. Our Events page has info on past and future events. Also make sure to check out the Pictures section. If you have any questions, stop by the FAQ page. If you can't find an answer to your question anywhere, don't hesitate to email us: plan@yakko.cs.wmich.edu.

Febuary 11th - DATE CHANGE

The date of plan 9 has been moved to APRIL 5th. Why, you ask, well... somehow everyone in the computer club managed to overlook the fact that the original date fell on the weekend of easter. EASTER!!! How did we miss that one? Oh well so remember APRIL 5th NEW DATE!!!

Febuary 8th - SteelSeries is back!

We are proud to announce that SteelSeries will be once again sponsoring the PLAN. They are the ones who sent us 5 super sweet QcK+ mousepads for PLAN 7. It looks like this time we will be getting 3 QcK mousepads, as well as a white Siberia Full Size headset.

Thanks a bunch SteelSeries!

January 27th - PLAN 9 from Outer... Mongolia

We have some big plans for this coming PLAN. We are gonna try and make this our biggest yet. It will be difficult, but we think we can do it.

First off, we believe we have figured all our network issues out, and will no longer have trouble connecting to Steam. That should also fix all similar problems, as well as allow us to fully utilize our wonderful internet connection on the engineering campus.

Second: we are going to be putting on a Team Fortress 2 tournament! We all have big hopes for it, and look forward to seeing how it will turn out. The tournament will be 5v5, and most likely capture point game mode. Stay tuned for more rules and details.

Also, we are bringin out our Starcraft games and dusting them off for some free for all action. We will have a tournament that will include many 4 play FFA games.

Lastly, we just love putting these things on. Our last March PLAN was humongous, and this one should be bigger. Here are some more juicy details for you to look forward to.

PLAN 9

Tournaments

Team Fortress 2: 5v5

Starcraft: 4 player FFA

Prizes and Rules TBD

October 26th - PLAN 8 update (hey, that rhymed)

First and foremost we would like to give a big big thanks to Creative Labs for sponsoring PLAN 8. We just received the prizes in the mail, and they are amazing. So we were forced to rearrange some of the prize money to accomodate such wonderful prizes :)

CS:Source will stay the same with $300 going to 1st place.
Guitar Hero 2 is absorbing Warsow's prize money, and we are giving $60 to the winner, and $20 to second place.

Warsow: the 1st place gamer in this tournament will receive a Fatal1ty Professional X-Fi XtremeGamer sound card ($150 value)! 2nd place will receive either another XtremeGamer soundcard (non-Fatal1ty) or a Fatal1ty Professional Gamer Headset (both valued at around $90) We are going to either give the 3rd prize to 3rd place, or we will be raffling it off.

Call ahead bussing: live on campus, but don't have a ride? No problem! E-mail us at cclub@yakko.cs.wmich.edu before the date of the PLAN with the Res Hall you live in, and the time you would like to be picked up, please also include your cell phone number so we can contact you. The cost is only $2, and we will begin bussing people back as needed starting at 10pm.

We are currently looking into getting some pizza donated, but if we can't manage it this time, we will still be giving out a slice of pizza to every attendee.

Have a good one guys, hope to see a lot of you there!

September 21st - Curious about Ikari?

For those of you who are still uncertain about this new mouse from SteelSeries, here is an article that pretty much sums up everything you need to know about it, and just how cool it is.

For more info, and other great gaming products, visit steelseries.com.

September 14th - PLAN 8!?!?!?!??!?!?11!?!!one?!

So I'm sure you've all been waiting for this wonderful announcement. The next PLAN is coming up. It will be November 10th and possibly the 11th as well (a 2 day-er) if we feel we want to stretch it out a bit, or if there is some extra interest in doing this. We will be holding 3 main tournaments:

We are going to be giving out at least 200 bucks to the winning CS team, and 40 bucks to each 1st place winner of the 1v1 tournaments. We will be giving out a few free things (to be determined) to the other places, and possibly some prize money as well.

We plan on having a huge turn out, so don't miss out! Register now!

August 28th - SteelSeries Mice?!

Last week, SteelSeries announced a new product line. The Ikari Optical and Laser Professional Gaming Mice. Check it out. They look like top quality mice. Perhaps you should think about snaggin' one before this next PLAN we are... planning (November 10th... stay tuned).

That is all for now, so just check out the new mice, and have fun with starting a new school year, or continuing an undending work year. Peace.

July 21st - Harry Potters on a PLAN?!

Yeah, that Harry Potter book is finally released, so get readin. And if you havent started the series yet, don't worry, you've only got 23 bajillion pages to go before you catch up.

But on a more relavant note... we have decided to make this summer PLAN... COMPLETELY FREE!!! Due to the LAN party 2 hours north thats goin on, and the lack of substance (competitions w/prizes) to this PLAN, we dont really have any expenses, so we thought we would just make it a fun get-together full of fraggin'. We will also have at least one Wii there to pass the time in between your Bawls filled computer gamin'.

We haven't had a free LAN party before, so we are quite interested to see how this turns out. We might even raffle somethin off, who knows. Just get your box here, and join the fun!

July 14th - PLAN B: July 28th

Well people, we are havin another summer LAN party. This will be our second summer LAN party, and we've decided to continue with the letters symbolizing the number we are on. Click REGISTER at the top of the page to get your name down.

We are not sure what the tourneys will be, since we are unsure of the number of people and what you are interested in. But we are leaning towards either a Wii tourney of some sort, or Warcraft 2 (or maybe Starcraft if yah want.)

November 12th - PLAN 6 Success!

Thanks to everyone who came to PLAN 6. It was a big success and we hope to have another LAN party soon! We were tossing around the idea of having them more often so stay tuned, we'll have more announcements soon.

October 7th - PLAN 6 - November 11th, 2006!

It's official, we're having another LAN party! November 11th is the date, parkview is the place. This one will go from noon to 4am so get ready to eat lots of pizza and drink lots of bawls. Oh yeah, and play lots of games! We've got a lot of help this time around so the tournaments will be hoppin' like never before. Our concession stand will be scaled down but we'll be making regular pizza runs to make sure we've got enough food. As always, there will be a hefty supply of bawls onhand throughout the event.

Check out the events page for more details.

March 12th - PLAN 5 done, next up: PLAN B!

Thanks to everyone who attended PLAN 5. We had one of our best turnouts in 2 or 3 events. Special thanks to the faithful volunteers who arrived early, stayed late, made repeated trips to the store, cooked food, dealt with internet troubles, etc, etc.

If you have any pictures of the latest lan party, please send links (or actual attachments) to plan@yakko.cs.wmich.edu. I'll get these posted up in the pictures section as soon as possible after I receive them.

With that, we've already started getting ready for the next PLAN. PLAN B will be in either May or June. If you have input either way, please stop by the forums and post your ideas. We know there are a few LANs in this time frame and we don't want to conflict with any others if we can help it.

February 5th - Forums online

The forums have been migrated to the new server and they're now up and running. Nothing was lost during the move but I did discover that there have been a few spammers posting in the forums. Didn't think we'd run into a spamming problem but at least it wasn't too bad and was easily cleaned out.

February 4th - PLAN 5 Registration Now Open

Visit the registration page to pre-register now and get $5 off the normal entrance fee of $15. Once you register, visit the attendees page to see who else is coming.

February 1st - PLAN 5 - March 11th!
